Should you be Board Certified?

Should you be Board Certified?

Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork is the highest credential in the massage therapy profession. What does it mean to be Board Certified and would it benefit you?

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) developed Board Certification for massage therapists who want to demonstrate they have massage therapy knowledge and experience beyond what is required for them to practice. The credential indicates both experience and a commitment to advancing your career.

A growing number of healthcare facilities are hiring massage therapists or developing professional relationships with MTs for their patients who can benefit from massage therapy. Health insurance companies are looking for a credential that helps them find massage therapists with advanced knowledge and experience. So, if you are considering working in a hospital or clinical environment, you might want to consider becoming Board Certified.

To become Board Certified, you would need to demonstrate critical thinking skills, pass a criminal background check every two years, show an understanding of evidence-based massage practice, and pass the Board Certification Exam.
