NCBTMB Call for Candidates: Board of Directors

Four Member Positions Open: Three Certificant, One Public

PRESS RELEASE - NCBTMB released its annual Call for Candidates for the Board of Directors. Communications are being sent to certificants via email and postcard, and Candidate Applications are available on the website -

Call for Candidates for NCBTMB 2010 Election

NCBTMB annually elects members to the Board of Directors by a vote of the certificants in good standing as of July 1 of the current election year. This year there are four positions open for election, with terms beginning at the Board's annual meeting in 2011 and ranging from one to four years. To apply as a candidate for election to the Board of Directors, you must complete and submit NCBTMB's Candidate Application. APPLICATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY JULY 15, 2010.

Three positions are open to certificants who are: practitioners of therapeutic massage and/or bodywork; researchers; educators; school owners/administrators; or individuals who may contribute professionally to the field of therapeutic massage/bodywork through their work with government regulatory agencies or licensure boards.

To be considered for a certificant member of the Board, an applicant must:

  1. Be credentialed by NCBTMB for a minimum of three years
  2. Have a minimum of five years' experience in the profession of therapeutic massage/bodywork
  3. Agree to abide by NCBTMB's Conflict of Interest Policy, Code of Conduct for Volunteers and other agreements included in the Candidate Application packet
  4. Commit to the time and travel necessary to be a fully participating member of the Board including attendance at meetings, serving as a liaison to committees and travel on behalf of the Board

If you know anyone who would make a good public member of the Board, please ask them to submit a Candidate Application. To be considered for a public member of the Board, an applicant may not:

  1. Be a member of the credentialed profession, an employee of the profession, or an employee of the certifying agency
  2. Derive more than five percent of his/her income from the profession or certifying agency in any of the five years preceding the election
  3. Have a spouse who is a member of the credentialed profession
  4. Have represented the certifying agency for a fee at any time during the five years immediately preceding the election
  5. Be subservient to, or directly superior to, a Board member or the Chief Operating Officer of the certifying agency while serving in another organization
  6. Be a student of any massage or bodywork training program

Note: In an effort to ensure there are not four director seats open in the same year, NCBTMB will be staggering the terms of the seats being filled this year. The two candidates receiving the most votes will serve a traditional four-year term. The applicant receiving the third highest number of votes will be seated for three years, and the applicant receiving the fourth highest number of votes will serve a one-year term.
