Ruth Werner is New President of Massage Therapy Foundation

By Editorial Staff

Former Massage Today columnist, Ruth Werner, recently took the reins as the new president of the Massage Therapy Foundation. Werner, of Layton, Utah, assumed her role as president on Mar. 1, 2010, and will be at the helm until Feb. 28, 2012.

Werner is a respected and long-time massage therapist, writer and educator with a passion for massage research and the role bodywork can play for those struggling with various health issues. Werner's current work includes keeping her well-respected 1998 textbook A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology up to date. Until recently, Werner was a regular columnist for Massage Today and she continues to teach education workshops nationwide. She has volunteered her time to the Utah Department of Public Licensing, American Massage Therapy Association, National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. Among her many achievements, Werner was selected as the AMTA Council of Schools Teacher of the Year in 2005.

Werner succeeds Diana Thompson, who served as the Massage Therapy Foundation Board President since 2006. Thompson remains on the Board of Trustees and will serve as Immediate Past President. For additional information about the Massage Therapy Foundation, visit
