AMTA Convention to Heat Up Florida

By Editorial Staff

This year's American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) National Convention will be held September 23-26 in Orlando at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. (Hotel discounted "AMTA rate" ends Aug. 28, 2009.) As always the AMTA convention offers a variety of classes, workshops, exhibitors and ways to expand your knowledge along with opportunities to build relationships with others in the profession.

Classes and Workshops

Some of the courses include the following: pre-convention workshops "Clinical Assessment and Treatment for the Forearm" and "Advanced Myofascial Techniques: TMJ." Convention sessions include: "Supervising Massage Therapists Is Like Herding Cats"; "Learning Through Clinical Research"; and "The ABCs of Meeting with Physicians." Post-convention workshop includes "CORE Myofascial Therapy: Structural Improvement for the Head, Neck, Back and Feet."

Exhibits Marketplace includes major massage industry organizations offering samples of new products or information on tools and techniques.

Student Day, September 25, is a full day of professional development with tips and resources that will help students enter the profession successfully. Classes include: "Resumes That Equal a Job"; "Research - What's Available to Support You and Your Business"; "Marketing Your Business". A prep session to prepare students for the exam, networking lunch, and a tour of the Exhibits Marketplace will also be offered.

Sanctuary is back again! A donation of $10 for each 10-minute treatment goes to supporting massage therapy research. Choose from basic reflexology, stone massage, exfoliation, hot/cold contrast protocols, herbal ball treatment or facial rejuvenating techniques. Plan ahead; make an appointment at the Sanctuary booth #817.
