MT Foundation Practitioner Case Report Winners

The Massage Therapy Foundation recently announced the winners of its 2007 Inaugural Practitioner Case Report Contest. Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented, along with four honorable mentions.

The Gold Award was presented to Jennifer Zalta of Jackson, Wyo., for her report, "Orthopedic Massage Protocol for Post-ACL Reconstruction Patellofemoral Pain Sydrome." Zalta received $2,500 in cash and received an invitation to present her report at the AMTA National Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., later this fall. She and her project advisor also will receive a $1,000 stipend to attend the convention, and her case report will be published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies.

The Silver Award went to Kim LeMoon of Highland Park, N.J. for her report, "Clinical Reasoning in Massage Therapy." She received $2,000 and an invitation to present her case report as a poster session during the convention.

The Bronze Award was presented to Karen Varney of Annapolis, Md. For her report, "The Role of Massage Therapy and Bodywork in the Treatment of a Client Diagnosed With Dissociate Identity Disorder," she received $1,500 cash and can present the report as a poster session during the convention.

Four honorable mentions were awarded to: Krista Dicks of Ontario, Canada ("Massage Therapy Techniques as Pain Management for Erythromelalgia"); Leslie Jensen of Seattle ("The Use of Lymphatic Facilitation With Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction Rehabilitation"); Erika Larson of Lilburn, Ga. ("Massage as Conservative Treatment for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome"); and Dylan Lott of Evanston, Ill. ("The Effectiveness of Massage Therapy on Postpartum Nondiscogenic Sciatica").
