NCBTMB Releases Job Task Survey

Massage Professionals Encouraged to Participate in Survey to Inform Exam Content

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Illinois (April 11, 2012) – The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) invites professionals who represent all facets of the massage profession to participate in the Job Task Analysis (JTA) survey to review and comment on the content of NCBTMB's exams – including the new Board Certification exam. Click here to take the survey.

Massage therapists, school faculty, continuing education instructors and other massage professionals are asked to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities that practitioners must possess to practice safely and competently, both at the entry level and at a level that demonstrates greater knowledge and experience.

"The Job Task survey is a critical step in the development of the new Board Certification credential," said Mike Williams, CEO at NCBTMB. "The survey results will not only inform the content of the exam, but also the concentration of each topic area. Additionally, the information learned from the survey will ensure the content of NCB's two licensing exams is reflective of best practices."

The organization announced in March the development of a new Board Certification credential which will take the place of the National Certification credential by the end of 2016. The current exams used as part of licensure requirements will continue to be offered, but the option to become Nationally Certified ends December 31, 2012. More information is available at www.ncbtmb.org.

The development of the Board Certification credentialing program will be in strict compliance with the accreditation guidelines established by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and in accord with the most recent edition of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing.

The Job Task Analysis survey closes on May 10, 2012. Results will be tabulated by NCBTMB's test vendor, Pearson VUE, and released in June.
