Dr. Oz to Speak at AMTA National Convention

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) is delighted to announce that Dr. Mehmet Oz will be the keynote speaker at the AMTA National Convention this September in Denver, CO.  He will address attendees at the opening session of the convention Thursday, September 18 and then participate in a special book-signing session in the exhibit hall.  The focus of his talk will be massage therapy and health and wellness.

This is a unique opportunity for massage therapists to both hear and see the most well-known and trusted physician in the U.S.  A strong advocate of the benefits of massage therapy, Dr. Oz is a two-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning host of “The Dr. Oz Show,” and is Vice-Chair and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University.  He directs the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. His research interests include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complementary medicine and health care policy.  He has authored more than 400 original publications, book chapters, and medical books, has received several patents, and performs more than 100 heart surgeries per year.

“This will be a tremendously exciting way to kick off the 2014 National Convention,” says AMTA President Nancy Porambo.  “Dr. Oz has incredible influence on how people look at their health, and we are honored he has chosen to speak at the AMTA National Convention.  He is sure to provide inspiration to us all, and I invite all massage therapists to join us in Denver.”

Convention Registration is Now Open

Massage therapists are encouraged to register as soon as possible for the AMTA National Convention, which takes place September 17-20 in Denver, CO. The convention provides opportunities for attendees to engage in the highest quality education in the profession, to connect with other massage therapists, and take advantage of vast resources in the exhibit hall. Continuing education sessions fill up early and AMTA encourages massage therapists to register early to ensure they have the widest choice for their preferred education sessions.

Attendees will have access to more than 35 courses of continuing education, including special programming options for teachers, researchers and students.  All classes are submitted in advance for continuing education approval by those states that require it; with approvals updated online.. More than 18 CE credits are available to attendees. The convention host hotel keeps attendees in the hub of convention activity and community with others. Stay in AMTA’s official housing to enjoy amenities such as room service, on-site dining, a fitness center and the AMTA community. Space is limited, so it is important to reserve rooms early.
