We Get Letters

Dear Editor,

We would like to express our appreciation for your detailed editorial about AMTA's recent public statement explaining our support for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) as the best choice for a licensing exam that can lead to portability of massage therapy practice. Thank you for helping your readers better understand both our decision and the nature of massage therapy licensing and certifications.

For many years, the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) has supported an envisioned future of portability of massage practice, fair and consistent licensing in all states, and uniform standards for the industry. AMTA recognizes that state regulators have the right to choose a massage therapy licensing exam. Clearly, acceptance of one exam for state regulation of massage therapy gives a consistent message to all legislators and regulators about an important step to facilitate the achievement of these goals.

Our profession is still in a period of transition. We are encouraged by the broad support and cooperation demonstrated in the last year by massage therapy stakeholders toward advancing the profession. A good example of this unified approach is progress on the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge initiative. We look forward to a bright future for massage.

Sincerely,

AMTA Board of Directors
