Stillwater Spa at the Hyatt Regency, Newport, Rhode Island - 93 points
The Massage Mice received an outstanding massage at the Stillwater Spa. The reservations process was quick, helpful and clear. The single greatest weakness of the experience was in the waiting room. The reception person did not explain anything as to the location of the changing room or what services and amenities were available to the client. The client simply was handed a locker key and expected to figure it out for themselves. The changing room was very nice and clean with spacious lockers and showers. Used towels were left on the floor of the changing room rather than in bins. The massage room was very nice. It was spacious, the temperature was comfortable, and lighting was well controlled. The music for the massage was very soothing. The massage table was excellent. It was sufficiently wide. The client's arms could rest comfortably and the face plate was very comfortable.
The massage was first rate. The therapist asked the proper questions and used the feedback in the massage. There was a choice of oils. The draping technique was first rate. Time allocation was a bit skewed with the therapist tending to run out of time before they finished the massage. The pressure was good but did not result in a massage that gave long term therapeutic effect. Clients were offered water at the end of the massage.
