12th Annual ISPA Conference: Still Growing

By Editorial Staff

An estimated 2,200 spa owners, directors, managers and vendors attended the International Spa Association (ISPA) Conference in Anaheim, California, October 20-23, 2002. With 340 booths representing 241 industry vendors (including dozens of first-time vendors), the 2002 Expo proved the largest trade show in ISPA's history.

Keynote speakers for the event were Dr.

Carl Hammerschlag, author, healer and proponent of the practical applications of the mind-body-spirit connection; Peter Greenberg, travel editor for NBC's "Today Show," who provided tips on media exposure; and Clyde Fessler, former vice president of business development for Harley Davidson, who discussed building a brand.

This year's conference featured 10 round tables and 23 breakout sessions, including presentations by some of the biggest names in the spa industry: Marcia Kilgore (Blisspa), Carol Phillips (Spa-Med Consulting Group), and Holly Steil, among others. Other conference highlights included a "Relaxation Room," sponsored by, and several new learning labs, sponsored by Physiodermie.

The 2003 ISPA Conference will be held October 12-15 in Dallas, Texas. For more information, visit
