ISPA, Day Spa Association Expand Overseas

By Editorial Staff

The International Spa Association recently announced it has created a regional committee in the Middle East. Daniella Russell, director of the Health & Leisure division of the MKM Group, which owns the luxury Cleopatra's Spa brand, has been named the region's first-ever ISPA board representative.

"Spas from throughout the [United Arab Emirates], Qatar and Bahrain have backed the move, and a regional ISPA committee has been formed," said Ms.

Russell. "The spas involved in the committee... believe awareness of spas, their treatments and benefits should be raised throughout the region, and that the Middle East is now sufficiently well-provided with facilities to be able to move into the international wellness tourism sector."

Also on the international spa front, the Day Spa Association announced that it has signed an agreement with Bellex Indochina Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Bellex Global Inc., to launch the Day Spa Association Asia Pacific Chapter (DSAAP). Headquarters for the new chapter will be in Bangkok, Thailand.

"This is the beginning of an important chapter in the history of the DSA," enthused DSA Executive Director Hannelore Leavy. "All partners in this venture look forward to much success in decades to come."

As we go to press, DSAAP plans on a soft launch at the Thailand Health & Beauty trade show in Bangkok (September 17-22), with the official launch at Cosmoprof Hong Kong in November. The Day Spa Association will beginning promoting the DSAAP at the Face & Body Healthy Aging Conference in Santa Clara, California, September 28-30 and Spacifically in Atlanta, Georgia, October 6-8. A DSAAP delegation will attend the conference in Santa Clara.
