New President, Officers at FSMTA

By Editorial Staff

Michael McGillicuddy, LMT, NCTMB, was elected new president of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA) in June. The announcement was made at the association's annual convention in Jacksonville, Florida, July 10-14.

McGillicuddy is the former first vice president of the FSMTA.

In his 17 years with the association, he has served in a number of capacities, including sports coordinator/trainer; sports massage director; Central Florida chapter president; and Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) liaison. He succeeds Ron Stephens, LMT, as president.

The association's election process was modified two years ago, such that an election committee now oversees the mail-in election process. The committee is responsible for choosing a slate of candidates from the nominees. This year, McGillicuddy ran against Elizabeth Hanselman, LMT, the former 2nd vice president of FSMTA, and liaison for the Florida State Board of Massage Therapy.

New members of the FSMTA Executive Committee were also announced at the convention. They are:

1st vice president: Daniel M. Grief, LMT
2nd vice president: Harris Drucker, LMT
Treasurer: Maureen Gilbert, LMT
Secretary: Rebecca Adams, LMT

The new officers will serve until 2004. For more information on the Florida State Massage Therapy Association or its current executive committee, visit www.fsmta.org or call (877) 376-8248.
