The European chapter of the International Spa Association (ISPA) held its sixth annual conference May 29 - June 3 at the Resort & Convention Centre Habakuk in Maribor, Slovenia.

The theme of this year's conference was "The Springs of Life - European Spa Tradition." The event featured exhibitions of spa products and services; sessions and presentations, business-to-business workshops, and various networking activities.

Keynote speakers for the conference were:

Sabrina Meûko, PhDH -- "A New Spa Experience with the Power of Mudra"

Michael Arloski, PhD - "The Ten Tenets of Wellness"

Karl-Ludwig Resch, MD - "Wellness Architecture: Living European Spa Tradition"

Breakout sessions covered such topics as:

  • "Tourism at the Break of the Millenium"
  • "The Comeback of the Body: Ancient Body Programs Are the Trend Toward the Modern Spa Experience"
  • "Spa Design"
  • "Marketing a Spa Destination: The Dead Sea Case Study"
  • "Prescription for Living: an Integrated Approach to Spa Programmes"

A six-day program at the Laûcko Health Spa in Slovenia (May 24-29) preceded the conference, offering sightseeing excursions, tours of local spas, and a golf tournament.

The final two days of the conference itself included roundtables and the annual meeting of ISPA-Europe, followed by a gala dinner at the Habakuk hotel.
