Former Massage Today Columnist Takes Helm at NCBTMB

By Editorial Staff

At a board of directors meeting on May 18, 2002, the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) chairperson's gavel officially passed from Susan Scoboria to Whitney Lowe.

Mr. Lowe, from Bend, OR, served the NCBTMB for the past year as its chair-elect. Lowe, known for his critical thinking skills and presentation style, is almost universally respected within the massage and bodywork profession.

The board also selected Garnet Adair from Tucson, AZ as the new chair-elect, and returned William Stoehs of Miramar, FL as treasurer, rounding out the executive committee for the next year.

In other election news, certificants experienced the anomaly of receiving double ballots. This doesn't mean that they were able to cast multiple votes, but that they received a flawed initial mail ballot. The first ballot asked certificants to include their certificant number on the ballot, thus negating ballot confidentiality. The NCBTMB reprinted and remailed corrected ballots, demonstrating their integrity and commitment to a secret-ballot election process.

NCBTMB's certificants selected two new board members for three-year terms. Newly seated on the board are former NCBTMB Continuing Education Provider Review Panel Chair Judy Dean, RN, and Elizabeth McIntyre, RN.
