The $1.6 million Hibiscus Spa opened in February at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa on Grand Cayman Island. The European-style spa features ladies and couples whirlpools, private steam and sauna rooms, and a variety of massage and aromatherapy services.

Following its recent purchase by KSL Recreation Corp., the renowned La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California is scheduled for substantial renovation in 2002.

According to Scott Dalecio, president of KSL's resort division, all 479 rooms in the La Costa facility will be renovated by year's end, with makeovers to the restaurant and spa itself completed by 2003.

La Bella Spa on Merritt Island, Florida teamed with the Salvation Army, Brevard Community College's Women in Transition Program, and the Women's Center to offer a free morning of spa pampering to 20 women as a "Valentine's Getaway." Many of the women had suffered traumatic experiences such as domestic violence, intense divorce, or the death of a spouse, making a relaxing spa adventure that much more gratifying.

The five-star Balmoral Hotel is Edinburgh, Scotland announced completion of its Balmoral Spa. Renovated at a cost of $1.7 million, the spa features a variety of treatment options, a fully-equipped gym, and one of the hotel swimming pools in the city.

The Mecca Spa opened recently at the Radisson SAS Saga Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland. Among the many services offered at the new spa is the "Mecca Lava," treatment, which includes "a body scrub under Vichy showers followed by a hot lava stone massage using pure oil made from Icelandic herbs."
